To be quite honest I work in Medicine but have a hobby/side gig of rebuilding and usually upgrading manual and auto transmissions and motors. My eldest son and I raced motocross for about 3 years with him on 2 strokes due to his age and size and me on a 4 stroke. Got hurt quite a bit so we took a 3 year beating and moved on. Always woke up any 2 stroke to simply open the intake with something more breathable, and on a dirtbike reed valve upgrades neccessary too on intake side but, also opening the exhaust really made them rip in combination. I didn't think to carry this over to a saw/smaller 2 stroke engine but did so on a nearly new ms362cm and it was AMAZING how the 3.0 Mtronic carb just tuned itself like I would the air/fuel and idle screws. After air/fuel/reed/idle adjustments some bikes would still need larger jetting diameters for pilot/mid/top end to boot. This saw in contrast (3.0 versiom ms362cm 25") was SUPER EASY and 20 seconds into the full throttle "relearning" procedure the saw just ripped like a well tuned yz65/85/125/250. Seems like the same principles apply and the saw LOVES it and didn't give any indication of wanting richer jetting!! Runs cooler and I think I feel more torque than anything but in terms of hp it may be close to 1hp gain. I didn't use impact guns or even ratcheting wrenches/socket drivers on this thing cause I felt like everything was too small to apply much more than hand pressure. T10 on the smaller intake bolts and then a T27 for the muffler/exhaust bolts. Egan exhaust flows WAY better but in certain situations could let rain/water into the saw if it was left out NOT running in the rain (only negative I would have to even say). Don't know who likes to leave nice saws out to be rained on but this exhaust isn't nearly as covered as stock so I'd be more reminded to bring it back in the shed/garage with any exhaust like this (theres this one and the other two available, all with same issue of simply having a more open exhaust port at an angle that rain can intrude into given the correct unfortunate circumstance). Tried to be honest in this review and point out the only "negative but obvious and nearly unavoidable flaw" in the exhaust. Bottom line would be to just buy this intake and exhaust, smile really big when you see what the pair does, and then don't be an idiot and leave your nice saw in the rain for hours anywhere.
So far, seems good. After being dissatisfied with Stihl’s pleated filter, I decided to make a change. After looking at the Egan product and the other one that’s out there, I decided to go for this one. I’ve got 3-1/2 tanks of fuel through the saw so far, the carb is clean as a whistle. Since mine is an early 362CM, I had to purchase the later air filter housing from my Stihl dealer. It was $19.99 from him.
The foam fits tight as shit up by the carb but not sure how you'd really resolve that.
Also, maybe add a note to watch the install video you made
Love the design so much easier to clean that the others
This filter is a must
- keeps fines out of carb
- saw breaths better therefore adding a little more performance gain.
- installation was pretty easy as well
